The Bassmaster Classic.  Ever heard of it?  It is kind of a big deal in bass fishing.  Just kind of.  Winning it would be incredible.  At this point in the season, though, I just think about making it…and think of little else.

The Arkansas River really surprised me last week.  I had a great time, and caught a lot of fish.  The fish were healthy and that fishery is fine, the fish were just all barely under the 15 inch size limit.  Anytime I can fish a tournament and stay shallow I am happy.  This one just didn’t work out like you would like.  But it was still fun.  I do feel so fortunate to have a family that travels with me and supports me being a pro angler.

All that to say, I am right on the bubble for the 2012 Bassmaster Classic.  I need to finish in the 40’s or better this week at Wheeler.  The fish have been biting shallow so that makes me confident.  Funny story.  On Monday I pitched a Tight Lines UV Power Worm to a stick out on a flat.  The line slowly moved off like a big fish had it.  I did my best to shake off the fish but it wasn’t coming off.  She really wanted to bait and as I tried to pull it out of her mouth it somehow lodged near her gill plate.  So I slowly began to pull her in.  She rolled on the surface and my eyes popped out of my head…she was over 10!  If that fish bites during the event I will have big fish by 3-4 pounds.  She’ll probably bite again…and throw the bait.

You would be amazed what I see happen out here.  I hope I see myself in the 2012 Classic.
